In Ground Pool Safety Fence: Small Investment, Priceless Returns
Why get an in ground pool safety fence? It is one small investment that protects young children from the unthinkable.
Imagine the whole family splashing around in the pool. The sun is bright, and everyone is having the time of their lives. Having your own swimming pool brings so much joy. You can take a dip whenever you please, host a pool party, or even try aquatic exercise.
Pools are luxurious, but they also come with upkeep. Aside from maintenance costs and cleaning water filters, installing an in ground pool safety fence should be your top priority.
Why Get a Pool Safety Fence?
If your family home has a pool, a safety fence is a must. Here’s why you should get a pool safety fence, no matter the cost.
Drowning Prevention
Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death for children between ages 1-4. It’s an unfortunate and heartbreaking fact.
Children love running around in the yard. With that said, small children are not the best at avoiding obstacles- like a slippery, in-ground pool.
Having a secure pool fence would prevent your child from even getting near the water’s edge. This is a lifesaver for parents with kids who love to roam around away from their parent’s watchful eyes.
Prevents Unwanted Guests
By guests, we mean animals (and the neighbor’s kids too). You will keep any curious animals away from the pool with a tall fence.
If you live near a tree line or out in the country, you’ve probably seen a wild animal or two- perhaps even drinking from the pool. Fencing deters animals and keeps unwanted visitors away.
Required By Law
Having a fence around your pool might actually be required by law. In the state of Arizona, any home (with children under six) that has a pool must put a safety fence around it. No questions asked.
There are no federal laws yet, but each state and municipality have their own guidelines.
What’s the Difference in an In Ground Pool Safety Fence vs. a Pool Cover?
Many pool owners opt for a cover rather than a fence. The difference between the two is incredibly drastic. Pool fences are set up around the perimeter of either in-ground or above-ground pools.
Wood, wrought iron, and aluminum pool fencing is popular. However, any type of fence is an efficient child-guard.
Pool covers just lay on top of the surface of the water. Tarp material is the most common. Covers are effective against debris (such as falling leaves) but are less effective against drowning.
We recommend using a fence + a cover. Using both will also increase the longevity of your pool since the water and surrounding area is protected.
If in doubt, choose a fence first.
